How did you learn your mother tongue? Did you go to the best language school to start speaking it? Did you take special tuitions to speak it as fluently as you do?
I think the answers to all these questions would be a big No. Doing it practically; speaking it, listening to others around you talk, observing and the rest gave you the mastery you probably flaunt now. The point I am getting at is that practicing is what can make you learn anything that you wish to.
The same thumb rule goes when it comes to learning coding and the scripting languages like PHP for php web development. Many say that PHP is one of the most difficult languages to learn, but I say that although it might be true, it is not impossible. In fact I would like to say that you can learn php and become php programmer without any external help or going to any tuitions or big name institutes.
Take one step at a time and within no time you will get there. And the best part is that there is only one step here. Start doing it and that’s all you need to do. Learning it in a typically defined way of trying to understand the complexities, remembering the sequences, the codes as to when and where to use them and all that will take you ages to achieve a formidable stance from where you can start creating.
But the moment you start doing it is the time when your learning curve progresses. This means that you start making your own scripts, start with simple tasks like typing a date on the browser. Continue with Loops. Create scripts that create mathematical equations. Print out your name, last name, etc.
Once you are done with the basics, don’t stop there. Continue practicing your skills. Observe others doing it, watch videos and demos online. Watch the tutorials that are again available online, practice what you see and keep your creative faculties open to explore through what you have learnt. Don’t be scared of mistakes and possible blunders you might make experimenting, but this will further you to the next step.
PHP and MySQL (database) go together like peanut butter and jelly. I cannot tell you how important it is to learn these two languages together. MySQL may not be the "best" Database in the world but it is very easy to learn and very capable of building large scale applications.
So then what are you still waiting for? You should be up and about on your desk scripting your name right now. This all might sound very over simplistic, but its not. Try it out and you will soon come to know. Things said, sometimes, are actually true and this is one of those cases. Try your hand out; you will not regret the effort made in the end even if that’s all you end up with.
